Retired Veteran Assists in Bank Robber Arrest

A classic scene we all see played out in the movies is the wanted bank robber on the run from police in a high speed chase. Only this time it actually occurred in Asheville, NC when Kelvin Simmons, a serial bank robber who was on the U.S. Marshall’s most wanted list, was evading police in a pursuit down I-240. After driving down the road the wrong way at speeds of up to 115 mph, he crashed into multiple cars and disabled his own vehicle. At that time, he tried to carjack an elderly woman but luckily U.S. Army veteran Trevor Hough sprung into action.

After hearing an elderly woman scream “help me, he’s trying to kill me”, Hough’s instinct from his 30 year military career kicked in. As Simmons was attempting to get the woman out of her car and drive off, Hough selflessly sprinted over and told the woman to put the car into park. Hough then heroically grabbed Simmons and wrestled him to the ground, where he restrained him until police caught up and arrested Simmons.

While on the ground, Hough said that Simmons was reaching into his waistband as if he had a gun concealed on his person, but luckily during the chase or among the various wrecks he got into, the gun seemed to have been lost.

Thanks to the help that the police received from Hough, Simmons is being charged with multiple crimes in multiple counties. His charges include first degree kidnapping, assault on a female, fleeing arrest as well as attempted carjacking.

U.S. Army veteran Trevor Hough has quite the impressive past as well. During his time serving our country, he spent the majority of his career in various Special Operations units and was also a Counterterrorism and Special Operations Intelligence Branch Chief. After all his years of service, he can now add this heroic day to his already impressive resume.
